NAUHAUS is a small block of flats for boating enthusiasts who enjoy using the river for recreation as well as a means of transportation. The ground floor is a large, communal space which includes, a gym, a café, and other recreational areas; all with river views. Each flat has a private outdoor green space overlooking the river; while two roof terraces offer communal gardens.
Additionally, two facades of the buildings are green walls, providing insulation, air purification and habitat for migrant birds. Finally, wind turbines on the roof transform the steady river breezes into power for the entire building.

Our proposal challenges the traditional private beach hut by creating a courtyard for communal recreation on Bakewell Beach. The scheme is extendable and adaptable; prefabricated units of lightweight construction can be rearranged or moved depending on the season and, in a time of changing climates and rising sea levels, the space can be used for sun-bathing, ice-skating or gathering around a fire. It is a destination for trips to the beach all year round, extending the British summer holiday to all seasons and weathers. Focusing on sustainability, air-source heat pumps and solar panels provide heating and electricity for the users.
