Phase3 Architecture, Sugar Plum Square, 2019

Picture
Sugar Plum Square’ is a futuristic re-interpretation of the traditional Georgian Square, a pedestrian public space surrounded by terraces. The open space allows the community to come together. The connection from the tram to the school is activated by children and park visitors throughout the day.
As an open-source building system, the pre-fabricated, standardised units will be manufactured off-site from pre-cast gingerbread. The mix of residential unit sizes and configurations respond to individual and family needs to create integrated, holistic homes for local Gingerbreadians.

Did you know?

Queen Elizabeth I is given credit for the idea of decorating the cookies in such an ornamented fashion.  It is thought she made them to resemble the dignitaries visiting her court.

The festivities that occurred were called Gingerbread Fairs and gingerbread cookies were known as ‘fairings’."

Behind the Scenes

The Gingerbread Modern
SOM
2019

The Gingerbread Modern perches on the banks of the London Quarter Island as a celebration of the transformative power of art. Art is the sprinkling of magic that transforms Henry Tate’s humble sugar into the beautiful edible delights of the gingerbread wonderland.

And it is Art that transforms the chimney and great halls of the power station of yesterday into vibrant public space that bring us together today to imagine the sugary possibilities of tomorrow. The Gingerbread Modern is the perfect place for all your sweetest dreams to come alive. Please come along and celebrate!

Candy Crane Wharf
AWW
2019
Picture
Candy Crane Wharf is a dense residential building located on ‘London Island’ and inspired by the city’s historic industrial wharf buildings situated along the waterfront. In order to sustainably meet London’s requirements to expand, a modern roof extension has been incorporated to the converted existing building.

An increased number of ‘candy cranes’ along the residential waterfront aids accessibility of the Thames’ historic nautical infrastructure. This could increase the allowance for sugar trade following shortages due to excessive consumption from the AWW gingerbread design team meetings.
