Traditional Gingerbread Desert City homes are like miniature compounds where extended families tend to live. They are made from several buildings surrounding large courtyards, filled with gardens and fruit trees. The buildings are made from locally sourced gingerbread brick. Courtyard gardens are irrigated by canals that enter holes underneath the walls to nourish apples, pears, apricots, grapes, melons, almonds, chickpeas, and vegetables that they contain.
